How to Select a Skid-Mounted LPG Cylinder Filling Station

Define an LPG liquid-phase cylinder-filling equipment list from inventory, refill frequency, planned filling demand, cylinder details, stations, unloading conditions and transport limits.

DIRECT ANSWERStart with planned daily and hourly filling demand, cylinder sizes and valve connections, net fill mass per cylinder, shifts and the number of filling stations. Then reconcile tank volume and quantity, refill frequency, road-tanker unloading conditions and expansion stages. An LPG-service unloading compressor is included only when the selected unloading method needs it. A hydrocarbon/liquid pump transfers LPG from storage to the filling manifold. Instrument air, where pneumatic devices require it, is a separate utility. Vaporized gas supply and vehicle refuelling are not the default duties of this package.

Use five input groups to define the equipment list

Provide a duty sheet covering inventory, refill, filling demand, cylinder details and site conditions. Unknown values may remain open so that we can clarify the equipment configuration with you.

Selection inputs and their equipment-list impact.
Selection inputInformation to provideEquipment-list impact
Inventory and refillVolume and quantity per tank, refill frequency, minimum remaining stock and expansion stagesDefines one/multiple tanks, unloading interfaces, future tie-ins and changeover needs
Filling demandPlanned daily/hourly quantity, shifts, peak duration and unitsAffects the pump duty, station arrangement, scales and controls
Cylinder conditionsCylinder sizes, valve connection, net fill mass and available samples or drawingsDefines filling connectors, weighing requirements and operating interfaces
Unloading conditionsRoad-tanker type, interfaces, time window, existing pump/compressor and operating methodDetermines whether an LPG unloading compressor and unloading valves are required
Transport and siteMaximum shipping envelope/weight, lifting, foundations, field piping, power and instrument airDefines one skid, separate skids, transport splits and site-connection scope

Select the unloading compressor, liquid pump and instrument air separately

The LPG unloading compressor serves the selected road-tanker unloading method, the liquid pump feeds the filling manifold, and instrument air serves pneumatic devices. The order schedule confirms each maker, performance responsibility, protection and documents.

Equipment or utilityDutyWhen includedWhat it does not replace
LPG-service unloading compressorProvides the LPG-side pressure difference or vapour-recovery duty for a selected road-tanker unloading methodOnly when required by the tanker, unloading method, interfaces and operating procedureDoes not replace the cylinder-filling liquid pump and is not an instrument-air compressor
Hydrocarbon/liquid transfer pumpTransfers liquid LPG from the tank to the filling manifold, with recycle and protection where requiredSelected from filling flow, inlet conditions, piping loss and standby needsDoes not supply instrument air and does not by itself define the road-tanker unloading method
Instrument airSupplies clean utility air to pneumatic valves or actuatorsIncluded only when pneumatic devices need it and no suitable site utility is availableDoes not contact or transfer LPG

Choose one skid, separate skids or transport modules

A compact project may evaluate the tank and filling equipment on one skid. Weight, envelope, maintenance access, safety layout or transport limits may require separate skids. Separate modules do not reduce the function; they divide storage, unloading/pumping, filling and auxiliary equipment into transportable units with controlled interfaces.

  • One skid: reduces field mechanical assembly only when equipment, transport, maintenance and project design allow it
  • Separate skids: tank, pump/valve and filling units become transportable modules connected from controlled interface drawings
  • Multiple tanks: shared or dedicated equipment follows refill, continuity, changeover and staged-expansion requirements
  • Split transport: freeze shipping envelope and weight, centre of gravity, lifting points, loose items and the site-restoration list

Separate factory preassembly from site handover

The agreed skid frame, supports, equipment, skid piping, electrical/instrument assembly and checks may be completed in the factory within practical transport limits. Foundations, field piping, power, earthing, instrument air, fire protection, separation distances, inspection, commissioning and local approvals still need assigned responsible parties.

  • Identify Huawang fabrication, specialist sourcing, joint manufacture or integration for every order line
  • Each equipment item retains its actual manufacturer documents and agreed inspection and performance responsibilities
  • Define field connections and integrated start-up in a written responsibility matrix
  • The competent authorities and responsible project parties confirm local approvals, layout and safety requirements

Conditions to confirm for the project

  • LPG composition, tank volume/quantity and refill frequency
  • Daily/hourly filling demand, cylinder sizes, valve connection and net fill mass
  • Road-tanker unloading method, existing equipment and interfaces
  • Number of stations, manual/semi-automatic operation and check-weighing/leak-testing/conveying needs
  • Power, instrument air, site, transport/handling and site-service boundaries

Relevant manufacturing capability

  • LPG pressure-tank manufacturability review
  • Specialist sourcing and integration of pumps, scales, valves, instruments and controls
  • Skid frame, piping, E&I preassembly, inspection, packing and delivery coordination

Key notes

  • Liquid-phase cylinder filling, vaporized gas supply and vehicle refuelling are different duties.
  • Equipment models, filling capacity and price depend on cylinder specifications, demand and project conditions. The responsible project parties confirm local approval requirements.
  • The unloading compressor serves road-tanker unloading, the liquid pump supplies filling stations, and instrument air serves pneumatic devices.
  • The equipment composition diagram supports purchasing discussions; confirmed project drawings govern process, layout and safety design.

Turn cylinder-filling demand into an equipment list

Inventory, planned filling demand, stations, road-tanker unloading and transport splits jointly define the equipment list. Select the liquid filling pump, optional LPG unloading compressor and independent instrument-air utility separately; they are not one generic compressor.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01Must every cylinder-filling station include both an unloading compressor and a liquid pump?

No. The liquid pump is selected for the cylinder-filling transfer duty. The need for an unloading compressor depends on the road tanker, unloading method, interfaces and operating requirements.

02Can an instrument-air compressor unload LPG?

No. Instrument air is a separate clean utility for pneumatic devices. LPG-service unloading equipment is selected separately for the medium and unloading duty.

03Must the tank and filling equipment be installed on one skid?

No. Compare shipping weight and envelope, maintenance access, safety design and expansion plans before choosing one skid, separate skids or transport modules.

04Can we request a quotation without a complete design?

Yes. Send the available cylinder, demand, tank, road-tanker, site and equipment-list information, mark open items and attach the documents you already have.
